Online service offers Asians a chance to mix, mingle
It is close to midnight at the Hollywod Park Casino in Inglewood, a working-class
Los Angeles suburb. Horse betting at the adjacent racetrack has shut down
for the night, but cards and money continue to flow freely in the smoke-filled
gambling parlor, lined with blackjack tables. On a dimly lit balcony,
about 50 people, mostly young men, mill about hte edges of the dance floor.
Others play carsd, check out the crowd or sway to the hip-hop beat.
The scene could be from any nightclub, except that most of the crowd
upstairs is Asian American. A giant banner reading “Click2Asia” hangs
on the wall behind the disc jockey’s turntables. The company, a new online
dating service for Asian American singles, sponsored the June 27 party.

Asian Americans search for love and friendship in the arms of
the dot-com
Like many young Asian business professionals,
"Ann" found few oppurtunities to meet people outside of work. Spending
up to 60 hours per week at her Texas-based office and an additional 12
hours to fly home to Los Angeles on weekends, the 25-year-old consultant
has little time to make new acquaintances, much less find the love of
her life. So last month, Ann, a Vietnamese Amerian, decided to try Click2Asia.com,
an online dating service catering towards Asians living across North America.

Click2asia.com was launched in 1999, an Asian American web portal site where
people could communicate with each other from around the globe and chat
about current issues. Within a year, membership grew to 1 million registered
users. Members chatted over various interests ranging from sports to politics.
The site acted as an online forum for many members of the Asian American
community.
