Tips for Study Tour Students

Loveboaters will be on the tour for 5 weeks, so make sure you're prepared!

Some handy helpful hints

• Have a list of handful phone numbers.
• Pack light-you'll need room for all the new stuff (especially if you are going to Hong Kong, which has strict luggage weight limits)
• Be the first to introduce yourself to everyone you meet!
• Be helpful to students who don't speak Mandarin.
• Don't forget to snap those Kodak moments for the photo contest!
• Money wise, travelers' checks are best since there's a lot of credit fraud. If you do use credit cards, MasterCard and Visa are widely accepted. American Express and Discover, less so.
• Save enough money for airport taxes as necessary
• Bring pictures of loved ones for "show and tell" and to combat homesickness!
• Ask for a dock of cards and any other freebies on the airplane.
• Some popular nightclubs are: "Kiss", "ID4", and "Opium Den"
• Be prepared to improvise a costume for the talent show and servant auction.
• You may want to purchase a gift of appreciation for your counselors or teachers.
• Don't break the rules-You can be sent home!
• Watson's is the largest and most economical drug store
• Buy and drink only bottled water.
• Taiwan uses the same voltage as the USA. You don't need a converter.
• Finally, please, please act responsibly! Don't embarrass or hurt your family!

• Stash of snacks (granola bars etc)
• Immodium AD/Pepto Bismo
• A talent (for the talent show)
• A super sized bottle of insect repellent
• Discman/Walkman and music!
• Several towels (bath and face size)
• Walking/running shoes
• A thick sweater or sweatshirt for down south
• Money, money and mo' money
• A calling card
• Some sort of ID to get into clubs
• Inflatable travel pillow (for airplane and long bus rides)
• Lots of shorts and T-shirts
• A camera with lots of film and batteries (Remember: photo contest!)
• Bathing suit/Speedos (required for men when swimming in public pools for sanitary purposes.)
• Suntan lotion/Sunscreen
• Sunglasses
• Protection (No Comment!)
• Deodorant/Anti-perspirant
• Travel size umbrella
• Raincoat/rainslicker
• Toothbrush/toothpaste
• Soap/shampoo
• Caldecort for those inevitable mosquito bites
• Travel alarm clock
• Breath Freshener (who knows whom you might meet)
• P.J.'s
• Slippers/thongs/sandals
• Travel pack Kleenex (Lots!! Substitutes for T.P. if necessary)
• Binoculars to see all the "sights"
• Gameboy
• Mothballs for the "musty closets"
• An open mind
• Books/ magazines
• Deck of cards
• Air freshener
• Laundry detergent
• Calculator to convert U.S.$ to N.T.
• Mini flashlight for night hikes and emergencies
• Fanny pack
• Razor/shaver/shaving lotion
• Combination lock
• Baseball cap/ hat for those "bad hair" days!
• Chinese/English dictionary for advanced Chinese Classes
• Light backpack for the trip south
• Mini scissors to cut tags off your new clothes!
• Laundry bag
• Collapsible luggage cart
• Suit, tie, and at least 2 dress shirts for guys
• Clothes line for hanging wet towels
• Travel chess/checker set
• Camcorder with extra battery packs
• Contact lens "stuff"
• A lot of facial cleanser, antiseptic and Clearasil (break-outs due to humidity)
• Fabric softener/ dryer sheets
• Art supplies for the yearbook cover contest
• Bungee cords to keep bulging luggage closed
• Face masks (smog and pollution gets pretty bad!)
• Primatene mist (asthma attacks due to humidity)
• Allergy medication
• Waterproof make-up (you'll sweat the regular stuff right off!)
• Cushioned socks
• Loose, comfortable clothing
• or if you prefer, tight sexy clothing?
• Moist towelettes
• Water resistant watch
• Lots of Vitamins to build up that immune system
